Day 4: Getting Through the Weekend

Day 4 of Nutrisystem 2.0 dawned gloomy and damp. It was 34 degrees and wet from overnight rain. The forecast yesterday called for a chance of snow today but that changed, and no snow is predicted for the weekend. Saturday mornings are hard because I used to roll out of bed knowing I had to shower and get myself ready for a day at the casino with mom. In the winter I always had to look at the forecast to make sure we weren't going to get blasted with snow while we were out. Now I wake up with really nothing to look forward to, so the weather doesn't really matter. Saturdays are hard. Winter is hard. Losing weight is hard. Getting fit is hard. Yep, sometimes life is just plain hard. You can collapse in a ball, or you can figure out a way to make it work. I've finally chosen to make it work.

On a positive note, the scale read 241 this morning! I've lost 6 pounds since January 2, which is 4 pounds since I restarted Nutrisystem. I was at 240 on November 7, so I'm glad to have shed almost all the weight I gained in that 2-month period. I have to lose 7 more pounds to earn back the 70-pound bear. I'll be happy to put him away and get the 80-pound bear out again!

Last night was a small victory for me, because I was very tempted to have a little extra snack at bedtime. I didn't do it and I'm pretty proud of myself for that. Those little extra snacks here and there turned into extra snacks all the time, so I know I can't trust myself. These were some of the mind games I'd play with myself. I'd tell myself that an extra 100 calories were no big deal. Well, in theory that is true unless you have an extra 100 calories multiple times a day every day for months. Over time those add up and an extra 100 becomes an extra 1000 or more. Before you know it, you've completely lost control and stopped even counting calories. That's really what happened to me. I stopped counting and really just stopped caring. I let my weight balloon and here I am. Lesson learned? Well, too early to say. I'd like to think so, but I don't trust myself.

I got up just after 8:30 and again wasn't starving, so I held off having breakfast. "They" say you should eat within 2 hours of getting up. Well, I don't know who "they" are, but it seems like I do get hungry within about 2 hours of getting up, so there may be some truth in that one. I tend to stay up later on Friday and Saturday, so I am trying to eat later no matter what time I get up. This helps keep the snack monster away. I had breakfast around 10:30, buttermilk waffles (160 calories) with sugar free syrup. I got a yogurt out (again) and never ate it. I actually didn't eat again until about 7 pm! Why - read the rest of this blog to find out. Anyhow, I had "lunch" around 7, a chef salad with fat free dressing and a 220-calorie pepperoni pizza melt. I also had the usual afternoon snack. 80-calorie cottage cheese and 90 calorie oatmeal cookies. Dinner was about 10 pm and I had the 260-calorie turkey & mashed potatoes entree. Evening snack was a 140-calorie chocolate cupcake. Total calories were only 950.

So here I sat with this whole weekend in front of me. Taking down the Christmas decorations was job #1. I also had a full schedule lined up on iFit. I also need to make a trip to the grocery store. Well ... then I logged in to Candy Crush Soda and was awarded 24 hours of free lives. I am sad to say I couldn't resist the temptation and spent most of the day playing the game. The good news is I wasn't stuffing my face while I played! I did get the decorations on the porch taken down and stowed upstairs, along with a few things from downstairs, so the day wasn't a total loss. I left the tree because I wanted to enjoy it one more night. That is how I spent my Saturday!
