Day 58: It Takes Time

Day 58 of Nutrisystem 2.0 was another slow start ! Maybe that magnesium before bed is working too well ! Regardless, I was up before 7:30, fed the indoor & outdoor cats and got dressed, before sitting down in my office with my first cup of coffee. It was a mild weather day, up in the high 30's and we had some rain here and there. We have a potential winter storm later tomorrow rolling into Saturday, so it looks like grocery shopping will have to wait until Sunday !

Breakfast was 160 calorie buttermilk waffles with sugar free syrup and an 80 calorie yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake. Lunch was a chef salad and 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt. Afternoon snack was 200 calorie cheese & crackers. Dinner was broccoli and a 250 calorie chicken enchilada. Evening snack was a 140 calorie chocolate cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1170.

First workout of the day was 33 minutes at Mount Kilimanjaro Tanzania. I'm enjoying the change in scenery and I picked up the pace a bit today. The programmed speed is 2.4 for the first 10 minutes but I bumped it up to 2.6 mph. Once the workout got going I let iFit take over as speeds increased to 2.7 and 2.8. The 10% incline at the end is still a killer but I made it ! After work was a 32 minute walk in Namibia, part of the March challenge. This one had little incline and the programmed speed was 2.6 mph most of the way. I did this one as programmed since it was longer than my usual pre-dinner workout and I didn't want to run out of energy ! I'm trying to have my afternoon snack well after 4 pm so I have something to run on ! With warm ups and cool downs I put in 77 minutes today, which is awesome. My Fitbit says I've done almost 13,000 steps ! Tonight I bit the bullet and ordered a new pair of Clifton 8's from Hoka. I was going to buy the new Clifton 9 but I saw a lot of reviews that indicate people don't like them. Many said the toe box isn't as wide and that is the problem the Bondi's I have are giving me. Today my new shoes actually felt pretty good because I'm padding the toe that bothers me, but I still like my old Clifton's better. The Clifton 8 is on sale so with tax and shipping it was only $132. I could return the Bondi's but they're growing on me. Also, I had issues with the same toe before and padding it for a while cleared up the problem.

The work day flew right on by ! I'm working on some of the older more complicated items on my worklist that I've been somewhat avoiding, so it wasn't a really productive day. I spent an hour on a mandatory online training course and we had a team meeting that lasted an hour, so that took a big bite out of my day. I also spent some time checking in on things I'm waiting to complete. I remember years ago our team was so busy that I never felt like my work was "done". It was a constant never-ending landslide and I worked until 7 pm many nights, but I was never caught up and I was never done ! The tables have turned a bit now as I'm constantly looking for more work ! My boss moved 3 new items to me around 4:30 and 2 of them were done before I stopped working at 5. I'd also taken the first steps on the 3rd one and can't wait to dig deeper into that one tomorrow ! I have at least 15 projects that will be ready to close next week, so I'm looking forward to that !

I'm glad tomorrow is Friday ! Looks like I'll be housebound on Saturday but I plan to get out on Sunday ! I was thinking today about the progress I've made with Nutrisystem so far and I'm just puzzled by how hard it is to get back on track. It wasn't this hard when I started Nutrisystem at 304 pounds. The more I think about it, the more I think it's all in my head. I'm just not in the right place "mentally" to buckle down and get this done ! Part of my frustration is the carb cravings at night. I'm eating the same number of calories but I am hungrier. On a good day I burn about 300 calories on the treadmill so that doesn't leave much for the body to work with. I log my calories at 1200 or less most days but in reality I am taking in more than that because of the extras like sugar free syrup, peanut butter powder and salad dressing. For the past 2 weeks I've also had feta cheese, olives and pickled onions in my salad. I also have an extra snack many days (100 calorie cookie pack, nuts, pretzels, those pesky muffins) so it's not like I'm starving myself. Maybe inconsistency is part of the problem, in that some days I overdo it and others I don't. Am I sending confusing messages to my body ? Going forward I'm going to try some different things. I used to eat tons of raw carrots and while I'm not going to go back to that I am going to eat more veggies. If I'm hungry in the afternoon there is no reason I can't microwave a bag of veggies. They are unlimited ! I may also try cooking 2 veggies with dinner. I have to do something to stop me from circling the kitchen looking for something to eat. I'm also thinking about ordering some cherry cheese rolls and cinnamon rolls the next time Nutrisystem has a 50% off sale. The calorie count is half that of a bakery muffin and they are delicious. If I need something extra they're a better option. I knew when I first started in 2019 that it would take time. I knew when I restarted it would take time. Problem is, I hate the way I look and I want to get back to where I was .. so why can't I get my mind and my body in sync ? That is the question !

On that note, I'm going to take my magnesium and Metamucil and head for bed !
