Day 151: Vacation Is Over
Today is day 151 of Nutrisystem 2.0 and it was a better day, only because I had something to do and somewhere to go. My sister had everyone over for a cookout, with the intention of disbursing the remaining funds from my mom's estate. She didn't end up doing that as there are some formalities to the process that she wasn't prepared for. It was no big deal as none of us are desperate for the money.
I'm going to dial the calendar back to Saturday as I never finished documenting my day. It was grocery day so I headed out to Wegman's around 2 I think. I restocked my salad produce and picked up the potatoes I needed for my potato salad. Next stop was Walmart to finish off the list. I needed a bag of dry food for the strays and a new tub of treats for my cats. I also bought a jug of laundry detergent for the first time in years. I had stockpiled it quite some time ago and just recently opened the last jug. That one will last me a good long time but I always like to have a spare on hand. I managed to avoid buying any candy but I did buy some cookies. I also got the eggs I needed for the potato salad, along with a small jar of mayo. After Walmart I stopped by the William farm stand in Cicero and got a turtle sundae. It was so good and worth every penny I spent, which was $7 plus $1 tip. It's a lot of money but I know they are required to pay much higher wages now AND the cost of everything has gone up. I could have gotten a smaller sundae for less money, but you know me !
After I got home I put everything away and fed the cats. I peeled and boiled the potatoes and also put the eggs on to boil. The potatoes I bought were called "butter potatoes", which I had never seen before. To me they just looked like white potatoes but I have never found a potato so easy to peel ! I let them cool a bit, cubed them and put them in the fridge. I also peeled the eggs and put them in the fridge whole. The plan was to assemble the salad today.
I spent the rest of Saturday on the couch watching tv and scrolling my phone. I didn't buy any hotdogs or other "bad" foods this week so my dinner was broccoli & a meatloaf sandwich. I had a munchy evening. I did buy chocolate chip cookies at Wegmans and I ate 3 of them. I also had a Nutrisystem dessert, a lemon zest cake smothered in whipped cream. I'm also consuming the last tub of milk chocolate caramels that I bought. Stress eating at its finest !
I got up around 9 today and after the cats were fed I pulled out the potatoes, eggs and celery to assemble my potato salad. Once that was done it was back on the couch until about 12:30. After a quick shower I packed up my salad and a few 1911 hard ciders and headed for my sisters house around 1:15. I was there first and had a bit of time to chat with my sister. I was able to tell her about what was happening with my job and it felt good to finally be able to talk to somebody about it. I also learned my brother in law has been sick but tested Covid negative, which is good since he had it 2 years ago and spent a week in the hospital with pneumonia. He was very, very sick. Fortunately, he is on the mend ! My sister & brother and their spouses also came and we spent the day talking about their Alaska cruise. It was a much needed distraction for me ! My brother & his wife both got sick on the cruise ! They kept it to themselves and weren't Covid tested, so there is no way to know if that's what they had. They lost a day or two of events but are both also on the mend. I was invited to go on the cruise and considering what's happened with my job I'm glad I didn't go and spend all that money. I had intended to go but it was too much to leave my cats for 2 weeks and I was afraid of getting sick and being confined to my cabin, which is what they do if you test positive for Covid on a ship. I imagine many people with Covid are keeping it to themselves for this very reason.
I got home around 7:40, fed the cats, popped open another hard cider and hopped on the couch. As the title of this post notes, vacation is over and it's back to work tomorrow. I didn't hear from my boss this week so that means nothing has changed with my employment status. I'm going to try my best to get back to some semblance of normal this week. I'd like to work out on the front porch and restart my exercise program. I can't sit on the couch eating and moping for the rest of my life. I have 6 months to lose at least 50 pounds and at the rate I'm going, it is not going to happen. I did check my weight the other day and the scale read 229, so I'm at a standstill. What did I eat today ? Pancakes with sugar free syrup, a pepperoni pizza melt, a hotdog and a hamburger (both with buns), potato salad, fruit salad, a piece of cake and the 2 remaining chocolate chip cookies. I also had 3 1911 hard ciders - 2 while I was out and 1 when I got home.
So calories are well over 1200. Quite honestly, I haven't been tracking calories very well of late, which is why I'm planning to try and return to my "normal" weekly routine starting tomorrow.
I didn't mow the lawn this week because it's been super dry and the lawn looks a little crispy. I may mow it after work tomorrow. I also need to check in with the guy that is supposed to do my siding as he never gave me a final price and I haven't heard from him since our last meeting. I'm assuming he still plans on doing the job !
Well, it's nearly 10 pm and tomorrow is a work day, so I'm going to feed Abby one more time and then head for bed. Work will be busy tomorrow so I need to get a good nights sleep. I wish I could say I enjoyed my vacation, but I really didn't. The joy has been completely sucked out of me and I don't know if that will ever change. Even if I'm able to keep my job I'll be constantly on edge waiting for the next hit of bad news. I think things will get better once I know my fate. If I'm going to lose my job at least I'll know when and can start taking the necessary steps to start collecting my pension, roll my 401k over AND find a new job !
